Bright Gold

(i) Liquid ‘bright gold’ was developed in the 1830s for the decoration of ceramics and glass. When fired it produces a thin bright polished gold film on the substrate. See Liquid Gold.

(ii) Bright gold plating solutions have been used in costume jewellery since the 1960s to achieve an initial sparkling finish, without too much extra polishing or ‘buffing’ which might damage a thin gold deposit. See Electroplating.
