Cellini

Benvenuto Cellini, the Renaissance goldsmith, was best known for his golden salt cellar completed in 1543 for Francis I of France and now in Vienna’s Kunsthistorisches Museum. Cellini described it as: ‘Oval in form, standing about two-thirds of a cubit, wrought of solid gold and worked entirely with a chisel'.
