Chuk Kam

Literally ‘pure gold’ in Chinese, is 990 fine jewellery popular in Hong Kong. Bought on low mark-ups of 10-15 per cent over the gold price, it is a basic form of investment jewellery. Traditionally, chuk kam is soft and thus vulnerable to scratching.

A strong 990 fine gold with improved wear resistance can be produced by alloying gold with one per cent titanium and is known as ‘990 gold’.
