A
strong 990 fine gold with improved wear resistance
can be produced by alloying gold with one per
cent titanium and is known as ‘990 gold’.
Chuk Kam
Literally ‘pure gold’ in
Chinese, is 990 fine jewellery popular in Hong Kong. Bought on low mark-ups
of 10-15 per cent over the gold price, it
is a basic form of investment jewellery. Traditionally,
chuk kam is soft and thus vulnerable to scratching.
