A sedimentary deposit
resulting from the compression of round pebbly fragments (often of quartz)
cemented in a mix of finer material. The best example is the gold-bearing conglomerate
(known also as ‘banket’) which forms the gold reefs
of the Witwatersrand Basin in South Africa.
The Tarkwa mine in Ghana also mines a conglomerate.
