Like the smaller $10 Eagle, the Double Eagle was initially minted with a Liberty head on the face but from 1907 until 1933, this was replaced with the figure of St. Gaudens. The coins usually trade now at a premium and some of the coins, from years in which few were minted, are collectors’ items.
