The production of a three-dimensional
shape by electroplating a thick gold
deposit onto a shaped former or madrel, usually
a low melting point alloy
or wax made conductive by application of a silver paste, to produce lightweight,
hollow jewellery.
Besides 24 carat
gold, carat golds in the range 8-18 carat can be produced from
cyanide-based electrolytes, depositing either a gold-copper-cadmium alloy
or a gold-silver alloy.
