Filigree

The delicate tracery in gold or silver wire, twisted and soldered into patterns, that was first used in Egypt as early as 2500 BC. This style of jewellery is still found in Syria, especially from goldsmiths in Aleppo. It is also a speciality in Portugal and is used by designers throughout Europe.
