A process for separating out minerals from ore
that depends on the adhesion of minerals (such as copper and zinc) to air bubbles
in a solution of crushed ore and water. This creates a metal-rich concentrate
on the surface that can be skimmed off.
Gold is recovered in this way
(usually with pyrite) in the re-treatment of tailings
in South Africa.
