Good Delivery Bar

The ultimate seal of approval on a gold bar is that it is up to the exacting ‘good delivery’ requirements of the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA).

A good delivery bar must contain 350 to 430 troy ounces of gold with a minimum fineness of 995. It must also bear the stamp (or chop) of one of the sixty companies world-wide who are approved melters and assayers, or of one of the further forty-two firms no longer in operation or whose name has changed. The LBMA also specifies that the bars must be of good appearance and easy to handle and to stack. The good delivery bars are the medium for international trading and the spot gold price itself always relates to these bars.
