Philharmoniker
One ounce
legal tender 999.9
bullion coin with face value of 2,000 schillings,
first struck by the Austrian Mint in 1989. The
coin honours the Wiener Philharmoniker (the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra) and
bears the design of their instruments. The
Philharmoniker became the best selling bullion coin in the mid 1990s, with a record
29 tonnes (0.9 million ounces) in 1995. It is also available as a half, quarter
and tenth ounce coin. With the introduction of the Euro, the face value
on the Philharmoniker,
from 2002, was changed accordingly.
