Vreneli

A 20-franc Swiss gold coin, fine gold content 0.1867 troy ounces, 900 fine, with a portrait of a girl on the face, which first appeared in 1897 and was minted until 1949. In all, 58.6 million of these coins were struck.

The Vreneli has been an important investment coin with Swiss investors, sometimes trading at a significant premium of 20 per cent or more to the gold price but in the 1990s as investment in physical gold declined, so did the premium.
