Pure gold has a deep, rich
yellow colour with an orange tint. Alloying of
gold with copper and silver (and sometimes zinc) produces carat
golds of a yellow colour, if the copper/gold/silver ratio is controlled. However,
the colour tends to be paler as the caratage is lowered.
