Company Description

• Ashanti is an African-based international gold mining and exploration group, with six operating mines in four countries, which produced almost 1.7 million oz of gold in 2001.
• Geita (50% Ashanti , 50% AngloGold), in Tanzania, opened in August 2000. Ashanti acquired 90% of Teberebie in May 2000.
• Output was moderately reduced from 2000, in part, due to the closure of surface mining operations at Obuasi, cessation of mining at Ayanfuri, and reduced production at Siguiri and Bibiani.
