Company Description
  • Harmony is South Africa's third largest gold producer, with output in 2001 of 2.3 million oz.
  • Its main operations are at Randfontein (acquired April 2000), Free State, Evander, Kalgold.
  • Harmony completed the acquistion of the Elandsrand and Deelkraal mines from AngloGold early in 2001.
  • The Bissett mine in Canada underperformed in 2000 and operations were suspended in 2001.
  • In November 2001 the company agreed to acquire four AngloGold Free State mines (Joel, Tshepong, Matjhabeng and Bambamani), in a 50/50 joint venture with ARM (African Rainbow Minerals).
  • In 2001 Harmony also made a number of acquistions in Australia - New Hampton Goldfields, a 31% interest in Bendigo Mining and on March 8 in the current year, a deal to aquire Hill 50 was sucessfully completed.
  • Output in 2002 is expected to reach around 3.4 million oz.
