Company Description

• Newmont Mining was the third largest gold producer in the world in 2001 with attributable production of 5.4 million oz.
• Main operations are on Nevada's Carlin Trend.
• Production from the underground Deep Post mine (Nevada) commenced in March 2001.
• Newmont has a majority interest in South America's largest gold mine, the Yanacocha mine, in Peru, and in Uzbekistan and Indonesia where the major Batu Hijau gold-copper mine opened in late 1999.
• Merged with Battle Mountain Gold Company in January 2001.
• Secured control of Australia's largest gold producer, Normandy in a three-way merger with Franco-Nevada, (concluded in February 2002), to become the largest gold producer in the world.
• The merged company is expected to produce around 7.6 million oz in 2002.
