| International Finance Corporation (IFC) |
The IFC is the commercial arm of the World Bank. It has played a significant role in raising finance for a variety of gold projects, notably in Africa. The IFC set up the long-term financing package for the reconstruction of the Ashanti mine in Ghana and for the Syama mine in Mali. Their first investment in Russia was a project loan for the Pokrovsky mine in the Amur region. More recently, the IFC agreed to provide project financing for the Sepon gold-copper mine in the Lao People's Democratic Republic, where production is expected to commence at the end of 2002.
