Chicago Board of Trade

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) has been operating as a futures market since 1848. The first gold contract, for 3 kilos, was launched in 1975 and changed to 100 ounces in 1979.

A 1 kilo contract was added in 1983. Volume on both contracts has been small in comparison with COMEX, with only three of the 100 ounces and 7,174 of the 1 kilo contracts traded in 2000.

Trading months: Spot - February, April, June, August, October, December
Trading hours: 7.20 am to 1.40 pm CST. Also Sunday through Thursday (100 oz contract only) evening session 5.00 pm to 8.30 pm CST.
