Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) is a diversified Brazilian mineral resource producer. Originally state controlled, it was privatised in 1997 by the sale to a consortium led by Companhia Siderurgica Nacional, Brazil's largest steel maker, of 42% of CVRD's voting shares. The company is now listed on the New York Stock Exchange. CVRD's largest gold mine is the Igapape Bahie open pit producing around 6 tonnes (0.21 m oz) annually, together with the Fazenda Brasilero mine at 3.5 tonnes (0.11 m oz).
