This South African mining house was created in 1980 by the merger of General Mining and Finance Corporation with Union Corporation. Gencor comprised Gengold (its South African gold division), an international gold division and a platinum division. In 1997, as part of the on-going restructuring of the South African gold mining industry, Gencor merged all its gold holdings with Gold Fields of South Africa to form Goldco. This was renamed Gold Fields in 1998, to accommodate specifically the gold interests.
