Swiss Bank
Corporation (SBC) had a long history as a major gold distributor and trader, originally
supplying gold to the Swiss watch industry. They were buyers at the third London
fixing after its inauguration in 1919. After World War II they became substantial
suppliers of physical gold throughout the Middle East and Asia. They owned the
Métaux Précieux/ Metalor refinery
at Neuchatel. Swiss Bank Corporation merged with Union
Bank of Switzerland in 1998 and ceased to trade under that name.
