The Singapore Mint was established in 1968 as a department of the Chartered Industries of Singapore, and incorporated as a private company wholly owned by government-linked companies in the 1980s. Since its inception, the mint has undertaken most of the minting of Singapore's circulation coins, and was granted ISO 9002 status in 1993, followed by ISO 9001 for design and manufacturing of numismatic and circulation coins, medals, medallions and minted products in 1995. It is one of the few mints in the world to have achieved this recognition of quality.
