United States Mint

The United States Mint was established in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1792 and produced the first $5 Half Eagle gold coins in 1795. The modern Mint, completed in Philadelphia in 1969, strikes the current Eagle gold bullion coins and other special commemorative coins in gold and silver. The Mint's bars are acceptable good delivery on the London market. A branch of the US Mint also operates in Denver, Colorado, where it was originally established in 1862 to produce gold coinage from new gold discoveries in the region. The Mint has grown to a Fortune 500-sized manufacturing and international marketing enterprise with more than $1 billion in annual revenues and 2,200 employees; and is the world's largest manufacturer of coins, medals, and coin-based consumer products.
